Parish Nurse
A Parish Nurse is an experienced registered nurse who has been prepared
in holistic ministry. The Parish Nurse is committed to the healing mission
of the church, through Jesus Christ, acknowledging the oneness of mind, body
and spirit.
Parish nurses take time to listen and offer supportive suggestions for
coping with health concerns, whether those concerns are physical,
relational, emotional or developmental in nature because they are caring
people.
- Our Parish Nurse is Jane Hoffman. Her office is located in the
basement of the church.
- Office hours are Wednesdays from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
- Blood pressure clinics are held the third Sunday of every month
following the worship service, or at any other time upon request.
- Jane is available for appointments and can be reached in her office
during her office hours at (320) 251-8277.
Parish Nurse Activities
- Health educator - available to lead or arrange health related
programs.
- Provide health/wellness information
- Promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being
- Referral source - aware of available community resources and assist
parishioners to utilize and understand the health care system.
- Personal health counseling available to discuss health concerns or
make home, hospital and nursing home visits as needed or requested.
Limits of Parish Nursing
- Refrains from "hands on" care: no shots, no dressing changes, no
medication administration.
- Refrains from medical diagnosis or prescription.
- Respects confidentiality. Shares information only when given explicit
verbal instruction to do so.
- Parish nurses do not perform delegated medical tasks. They are
not on call for emergencies. They do not replace community services (i.e.
home health care) that already exist, but they do help to connect
people with those systems as needed.
If you are struggling with a health related concern, but don't know where to
turn, consider consulting the Parish Nurse for guidance.
