Boy Scouts
Boy Scouting, one of the traditional membership divisions of the
BSA, is available to boys who have earned the Cub Scout Arrow of
Light Award and are at least 10 years old or have completed the
fifth grade and are at least 10, or who are 11, but not yet 18 years
old. The program achieves the BSA's objectives of developing
character, citizenship, and personal fitness.
Troop 3 meets at First Presbyterian Church every Tuesday
during the school year.
To meet the BSA’s objectives, the Troop undertakes many
different activities. During
2008-2009, the Troop participated in the following:

5 different Troop weekend campouts

A full week at Many Point Scout camp
-
Community service projects including
-
One night per month entertaining residents of Skylight Gardens with board and card games
-
Volunteering to distribute poppies for benefit of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post
-
Participating in Scouting for Food
-
Highway Cleanup on Hwy 15
The Troop prides itself on having one of the highest percentage of
Scouts obtaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout.
Requirements for an Eagle Scout include receiving 21 Merit
Badges. The 12 required are:
First Aid
Citizenship in the Community
Citizenship in the Nation
Citizenship in the World
Communications
Personal Fitness
.Emergency Preparedness OR Lifesaving
Environmental Science
Personal Management
Swimming OR Hiking OR Cycling
Camping, and
Family Life
Further, an Eagle candidate must complete a project that is approved
by Troop leaders, community leaders, and BSA leaders.
Finally, an Eagle candidate must successfully complete an
Eagle Board of Review.
The adult leaders of Troop 3 recognize that there are many competing
activities for a youth’s time.
The Troop works with each Scout to meet these challenges so
that he can fulfill his personal goals.
