The program achieves the BSA's objectives of developing character, citizenship, and personal fitness.

Troop 3 meets at First Presbyterian Church every Tuesday during the school year. To meet the BSA’s objectives, the Troop undertakes many different activities. During 2008-2009, the Troop participated in the following:

  • 5 different Troop weekend campouts

  • Community service projects including

  • One night per month entertaining residents of Skylight Gardens with board and card games

  • Volunteering to distribute poppies for benefit of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post

  • Participating in Scouting for Food

  • Highway Cleanup on Hwy 15

The Troop prides itself on having one of the highest percentage of Scouts obtaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout. Requirements for an Eagle Scout include receiving 21 Merit Badges. The 12 required are:

Further, an Eagle candidate must complete a project that is approved by Troop leaders, community leaders, and BSA leaders.  Finally, an Eagle candidate must successfully complete an Eagle Board of Review.

The adult leaders of Troop 3 recognize that there are many competing activities for a youth’s time.  The Troop works with each Scout to meet these challenges so that he can fulfill his personal goals.
